Southern Highlands Private Hospital offers patients the latest technology in orthopaedic hip and knee replacements with the Stryker MAKO robot.

Robotic surgery offers a minimally invasive approach to surgery, allowing specialists to perform complex surgical procedures with increased accuracy and control than is possible through standard operative techniques.

The MAKO system is an advanced, surgeon-controlled, robotic arm designed to increase the accuracy of knee and hip replacements.

Through its innovative use of technology, the MAKO robotic-arm assisted surgery takes total and partial knee resurfacing to a new level of precision when compared to manual techniques.

By selectively targeting the part of your knee damaged by osteoarthritis, your surgeon can replace the diseased part of your knee while helping to spare the healthy bone and ligaments surrounding it.

A patient-specific 3D model is used to pre-plan your knee replacement and assists your surgeon in positioning the implant based on your anatomy.

Robotic assisted surgery has been associated with a reduced impact on bone and soft tissue. Many knee replacement recipients experience significant improvement in pain, stiffness, and function of their replaced joint2.

Similar to the benefits of knee replacement using the MAKO, hip replacement using the robotic arm surgical system leads to precise placement and alignment of hip prosthesis for those suffering from hip arthritis. The 3D specific model used in planning the surgery assists the surgeon in this process. During surgery, the surgeon guides the robotic arm to remove arthritic bone and cartilage within the defined boundaries defined by the surgical plan.
