Operating on the Head & Neck: Understanding Common Conditions & Surgical Management

This will be a practical and educational overview of common head and neck conditions encountered in general practice, with a focus on the surgical management of skin cancers and reconstruction, blepharoplasty, otoplasty and direct excision neck lift. The session will explore the different surgical approaches used for these conditions, the principles behind treatment and reconstruction, and the factors that influence surgical decision-making.

Dr Safvat will use clinical examples to explain how skin cancers are managed and reconstructed, what is involved in eyelid and ear surgery, and how excess skin and tissue of the neck can be addressed through direct excision. The presentation will also provide practical guidance on recognising when a patient may benefit from specialist surgical assessment and when referral is appropriate. Designed to be informative and clinically relevant, the session will give GPs a greater understanding of these procedures, the surgical considerations involved, and what patients can expect throughout the treatment process.
